As the visionary leadership of Dr. Chidi Lloyd in Emohua Local Government continues to attract commendations for the improved security and unprecedented infrastructure revolution witnessed across the local government area under the present administration, the management of Rivers State University on Wednesday lauded the council chairman for his commitment towards the security of lives and properties at the Emohua campus of the university.
The university management commended the council chairman for the construction of a police station opposite the Emohua campus of the university to enhance the security of staff and students at the state-owned institution.
Dr. Lloyd received the commendation when the management and staff of the university’s faculty of social sciences, led by the Dean, Prof. J. I. Onyema, joined him to ascertain the progress of work at the Emohua Divisional Police Headquarters building conceived and constructed by Emohua Local Government.
The project, which is situated opposite the Emohua campus of Rivers State University along the Emohua-Kalabari road, aims to improve security within the university community, the local government headquarters, and its environs.
The council chairman said the project is in furtherance of his administration’s commitment to the security of lives and properties and to provide an enabling environment for academic and economic activities in the area.
Recall that the immediate past Governor of Rivers State, H.E. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, during the commissioning of the Emohua campus of the Rivers State University in September 2022, requested Emohua local government council to support the state government with the provision of a police station opposite the university campus for the security of students and staff, but Dr. Lloyd, in his wisdom, conceptualized an edifice to serve as a divisional police headquarters in the local government headquarters.
Upon completion and takeoff, the edifice is expected to house the first-ever police divisional headquarters in the local government headquarters since the creation of the local government area in 1991.
The entire local government area previously had only two divisional police headquarters, situated in Rumuji and Egbeda, despite the peculiarities of the area.
Some of the project sites visited within the council secretariat complex include the ultramodern Emohua council administrative building; extensions of the local government primary healthcare center, comprising the already completed doctor’s residence and office; the Cold Chain facility for storage of vaccines; the 350-capacity ICT studio; and the council pavilion (mini stadium).
Dr. Lloyd and his visitors also inspected the aggressive remodeling and completion of the council secretariat building (office complex) abandoned by successive administrations.
